Andrea Guerrero

Andrea Guerrero

Philippine-born and the daughter of medical practitioners, Andrea Guerrero is a multidiasporic immigrant whose heritage is Ilongga, Pangasinense, and Ilocana through her father; and Kapampangan and Tagalaguna through her mother. She is the great-great-granddaughter of ilustrados, and the granddaughter of academic scholars.

Her infancy and early childhood were spent in the United States (Boston and Ohio), her early adolescence spent in the Philippines, and her teen years and early adulthood in The Bahamas. She currently lives between The Bahamas and Toronto where she is in the process of earning her degree in Fine Arts at the latter.

As a multimedia artist and poet, she believes certain emotions are universal but can feel isolating. She believes the magic of art and text not only validates the self but should be left for other people to find who similarly experience feelings of isolation. She believes the magic of Oral Tradition is bearing witness to what we feel and experience in places that we occupy that otherwise are left out of mainstream representation, while giving us the opportunity to step in our own truth with empathy, compassion, and joy.

Andrea is the cover artist of The Beginning of Leaving (Querencia Press), where the title of her image against the Murujuga landscape is Nectar, 11 in x 14 in, graphite on paper, 2021.
